The Immigration Rules set out a number of categories for dependent children, elderly parents and other dependent relatives wishing to enter the U.K. and join a relative settled in the United Kingdom.

Many factors must be considered for example for dependent children, whether the individual is living an independent life or has married, whether they are living in exceptional compassionate circumstances and whether they financially dependent upon the individual in the United Kingdom.
