If you are the partner of a British or settled person in the United Kingdom, then an application can be made for entry clearance to enter the U.K. in one of the above categories.

The Immigration Rules do set out terms and conditions in that the relationship must be genuine, that it is the intention of both partners to live together and that the foreign national can be maintained and accommodated without reliance on public funds in the United Kingdom.

If an application is successful, it is usually granted for a limited period. Following a probationary period, the individual may be entitled to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom.
